Thursday Throw Out

Howdy.




Its Thursday again, so that means another post from me.


You know, I have been doing this whole writing thing for the better part of the last five years, and it has not gotten any easier. I have gotten better at it, but it has not gotten any easier. I knew absolutely nothing about what it takes to publish a book when I started out, and still feel like I have no clue what I am doing. I just know I like to put words on paper. If others enjoy them, great. Thankfully I have friends who explain stuff to me when I am dumbfounded, which happens a lot.


So news. I am about a quarter of the way through Detour my first romance/erotica novel. I wanted to make it a series, but decided that I need a standalone under my belt. The last Adventure of those girls is looking like it is going to be a novella. I wanted to make it a full length, but I don't think I have the time to devote to making it into a full length novel. However, the novella is begging to be written and as hard as I try to work on other things, I just cant stop. So Hopefully I complete it soon. Scarred, which is complete and I am about halfway through the read through, will hopefully be in beta before the end of the summer.(Give a girl a brake, I have two jobs) AAAAND Muse Vol 2 is about 50% complete. My other two WIP are shelved for the time being, but if someone wants to pay me to do this for a living, I could have all of these done in a few months (hehe)




Muse Vol 1, my baby and my very first attempt at writing could possibly be getting professionally edited. I have been contemplating taking it down, basically because I get embarrassed anytime someone says they are going to read it. I feel like it is cringe worthy, but others tell me it is good, so hopefully they are not just trying to spare my feelings.


I guess I could always just give up and just change my blog to The Misadventures of A Snarky Fat Girl and just use this platform to be sarcastic....oh wait......

The Last Adventure of  Those Girls




Squinting into the sunlight, I lift my hand to block the offensive illumination. My sunglasses are fired. The UV factor in Jamaica proves to be far out of their protection level.  The pool is all but deserted, with the beach being only a few yards away I understand why.


Out of sheer lack of motivation, I flop down on to the nearest chaise lounge.  Fishing through my beach bag, I pull out my SPF 50 and start applying it to my sun starved Minnesotan skin.  I can already feel the burn starting on my upper back, and start the impossible task of applying sunscreen to the out of reach areas.


“Need some help with that?” A silky familiar voice floats from behind me. My skin puckers at the thought of him standing there.  Unsure if it is out of annoyance, or excitement, I decide to ignore him. A half a beat later, Shannon squats in front of me, directly in my line of sight. Shit, there goes my “didn’t hear him” excuse. He pushes his boxy black Ray Bans up his nose and cocks his head to the side. His loose board shorts leave nothing to the imagination as they bunch near his nether region.


The smile that envelopes my face is involuntary, his beauty melts my insides like butter. A Hawaiian shirt hangs open, exposing his athletic frame and beautiful caramel colored skin. Glancing at the ground, I notice he is wearing the flip-flops that he carried last night. If it is possible, his feet are just as sexy as the rest of him. He grins at me,  obviously catching me checking him out.


“Are you following me?” I quip, trying to sound bothered by his presence.


His eyebrow arches at me over the edge of his designer shades. Shannon grabs the bottle of sun block from my hand and slides in to the empty spot next to me on the chair. Before I can protest, he has filled his palm with the lotion and is rubbing it generously on my back.


“I don’t often ask for a girls name, only to have her walk away without giving it.” He purrs.


“I bet you don’t. Glad I could put a dent in that record.”

Downward spiral throw out.

A word of advice. Never become a writer. Why? Well, I will tell you. Eventually, you start to believe your own bullshit.  Delude yourself into seeing things that aren't there. You are convinced at first that situations are innocent, then your friends say they are not, and you believe them. Just trust your instincts. Fairy tales are just that. Never going to happen. Especially not to me. So I open my mouth, loaded with misconceived information, that I didn't want to believe to begin with, and now I am pretty sure I fucked something up that could have pretty awesome. Ugg, I should be used to this by now, but I guess it never gets easier. I have deleted two posts this week, which I never do. With a little help from my friends Thursday throw out

So I was given a some constructive criticism from a beta who's opinion I value greatly. She was not a fan of my original prologue for one of my books. I redid it with the suggestions she gave me. After several drafts, trying out different concepts, I finally had something I thought was acceptable. Unfortunately, I am still in love with my first idea. This is where you come in! Tonight I am posting both prologues for said book. I want to put it to a vote. If you could please read both versions posted below. Every picture tells a story

So I have had time to process the suggestions given by my Beta and I have now organized them in such a way the my brain can process. 1. revamp prologue it sucks..well at least reword and add to it 2. Decide weather or not you want to take out things that personalize it to me...how much of myself do i want to leave on paper. 3. re-evaluate the refrences 4. it needs more muchness 5. suck it up..you can do this So here I sit staring at the picture that my daughter drew me, the back of which, where the first words of muse were laid out on paper.  It took me only a few seconds for this picture to inspire my story. Maybe if i stare at it long enough it will tell me how to proceed.
