A diffrent kind of Thursday Throw Out

Welcome back! It has been a crazy week. Actually had a couple days off, and with the great weather I have been spending as much time outside gardening as possible. There is something therapeutic about digging in the dirt, being one with the plants and purifying the soul with sweat! My mom gave me a ton of perennials to put in the ground. Any thing she touches grows  like a weed so I am set for a while.

Well this week I am doing something different. I am posting a short story that I wrote recently. I am calling it a short story because I am not sure I want to delve too far into it. It was more of a therapeutic musing than a spark of revelation, so i digress. Even so, I hope you like it!

She walks up the stairs bracing herself for the explosion to come. He rarely even looks at her anymore. The words exchanged between them are clipped, bitter. Their lives had become an empty promise, driving a spike into her broken soul.

Then comes the blame, the harsh words, the deprecation. Her walls go up, protecting her fragile heart. She is strong and refuses to back down. He is stubborn and refuses to accept fault.

As much as she tries to protect herself, it always hurts. Not physically, he would never raise a hand to her. His words cut her deep. Like a fillet knife against a ham bone.  Like a sponge, his toxic speech soaks deep within her.

She retreats, taking with her his hatred, leaving behind a piece of her spirit. Her entire life has become a bid for his approval. Unfortunately, her bid is too low.

She reaches her sanctuary, hoping to recover her countenance. Instead she meets a set of giant watery eyes that ask her, "why?". Her stomach bottoms out at the thought of what she endures, and the cost of her own actions. What lesson is she teaching her own daughter?

She has failed as a wife.

She has failed as a mother.

She has failed as a woman.

Well that will do for this week.  Like, share, and comment!!! And remember to come back next week!!!!
